16 In high school, you have more freedom, and you make more of your own choices and decisions. Of course, with greater freedom and independence comes greater responsibility. As a high school student, you must be prepared to accept responsibility for your actions and for the choices and decisions you make. Make your decisions carefully, and make sure that your choices are consistent with your goals and values. High school decisions We asked our high school seniors about the decisions that high school stu- dents have to make. Here are a few of their responses. “You have to decide what’s important to you and how you want to spend your time. Between home- work and soccer, I don’t have much free time, but that’s OK because I’m doing what I want to do.” James “You need to decide what you’re going to do after you graduate. This has definitely been the hardest decision I have had to make in high school.” Brad “You need to decide who you want to hang out with, and what kind of person you want to be.” Jasmine Stephanie’s Decision I looked at my two choices and realized that before I could make a decision, I needed to find out if my mother would be willing to pay for summer school. After I explained why I might want to go to summer school, my mother said that she’d pay for it. I thought about the positives and negatives of each choice, and then I made my decision. I decided to take the course in summer school.
