Take family trips to libraries, museums, parks, and zoos. It’s important for children to discover that learning can take place anywhere. 29. Teach your child basic social behaviors, such as phone etiquette, writing thank you notes, and having a firm handshake. 30. Make sure that your child gets enough sleep. Elementary students should get 10 –11 hours of sleep each night. 31. Give your child age-appropriate chores (e.g., set the table, feed a pet).
